Paul Stanley, chief investment officer at Granite Bay Wealth Management commented that the 401(k) plan is the “bedrock of most people’s long term financial plan, and I think the simplicity of traditional public market investments makes the most sense for plan participants.”
“People need to focus on dollar-cost averaging into a well-diversified portfolio of funds and not over-thinking the movement of investments inside the plan,” he said. “Adding in too many new types of investments that sound sophisticated could entice participants to make changes that they don’t understand and ultimately hurt them, despite the traditional benefits of private investments in larger portfolios.”
